Robert “Sheldon” Rowan

ALBANY- Robert “Sheldon” Rowan, age 86, of Albany died Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at his home with his family.  Born in Athens, he was the son of the late Robert L. Rowan and Agnes M. Duncan Rowan.

He was a graduate of Athens High School and retired as a groundskeeper from Ohio University after 35 years of service.  Prior to Ohio University, he was employed as a barber at Docie’s Barber Shop and Carsey’s Barber Shop.  He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Era veteran.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  He liked to collect rocks and cutting gems.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

Sheldon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clara Bail Rowan; his children, Shelly (Joey) Daniel, Donald Rowan and Charles Rowan; five grandchildren, Beth Roberts, Jonathan Brozak, Jennifer (D.J.) Harper, Janelle Rowan and David Goins, Jr., and several step grandchildren including, Christina Radcliff, Angel Reed and Melissa Moore; and two great grandchildren, Kurtis Roberts and Chase Harper.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his father and mother in law, Charles and Lucille Bail.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 5th, at 3:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor Stan West officiating.  Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, Hebbardsville.  Friends may call Friday 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.  Military Rites will be conducted by K.T.
