THE PLAINS, Ohio — Sandra C. “Sandy” Hawk Klinglesmith, 79, of The Plains died Wednesday evening, July 26, 2023, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus. Born August 20, 1943, in Millfield, she was the daughter of the late Bernice Mayles Thompson.
She attended Chauncey-Dover High School. She began her career as a waitress at the Hilltop Restaurant and worked as a waitress and bartender at the clubhouse of several area veterans organizations while working full time at T.S. Trim of Athens. She retired from T.S. Trim in 2015.
She was a member of 76 Riders and the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Athens posts of the American Legion, VFW and AMVETS.
Sandy is survived by her husband of four years, Larry Klinglesmith; a daughter, Michele (Kenny) Drawdy of Summerville, South Carolina; her son, Matthew (Tammy) Hawk of Chauncey; her stepchildren, Tina (Barry) Deeter of Lottridge and Shane (Missy) Lockhart of Frost; five grandchildren, Travis, Shelby and Taylor Drawdy and Noah and Justin Hawk; two great-grandchildren, Robby McDaniel and Ellie Drawdy; two sisters, Rhea Douglas of Albany and Cheryl Pendergrast of Athens; a brother, Dennis Thompson of Obetz; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her mother, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Mayles and Leroy Thompson.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.
