ATHENS, Ohio –– Sara Lou (Roberts) Green, 92, of Athens, Ohio, passed away on June 18, 2025 at her home.
Sara was born March 16, 1933 to Lola Ester (Kennard) Roberts and Delmer A. Roberts in Morgan County, Ohio.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John (Jack) Green as well as siblings, Wanda (Robert) Burfield, Iola (Robert) McCoy and Charles Eugene (Goldie) Roberts. Sara was also preceded in death by her niece Jane (Randy) MacCleary.
Sara is survived by her two daughters, Lesa (Bosha) Green and Gina Green; granddaughter, Fawn Gosney (Bub Miller); two grandsons, Elias Jablonski and Benjamin Weiser; great grandson Ezra Miller; three nieces, Pamela (Alex) Horvath, Barbara (Jack) Tucker, and Patty Doro and three nephews, Tim (Penny) Burfield, David Roberts and Danny Roberts.
She graduated from Malta/McConnellsville High School in 1951. Prior to moving to Athens Sara was employed at Cleveland Graphite Bronze Co making ball bearings, Carborundum, and the Tin House, a small bar owned by her parents in Malta, Ohio.
Sara worked at Ohio University, Office of Registration and Records from 1968 to 1998. She enjoyed her 30 years working in Chubb Hall and took great pleasure helping students in any way she could. She used her connections with so many people in different departments at OU to help direct students to the right place. She maintained many friendships with co-workers after retirement.
Sara will be remembered by many people for her active participation in the Athens community through involvement on the Board of the Southeast Ohio History Center and the Athens County Genealogical Society and Library, Athens Herb Guild, Ohio University AFSME union, Beta Sigma Phi social sorority, Girl Scout troop leader, and 4-H Silver Needles leader. Sara loved doing all types of crafts and her hobbies included crochet, sewing, herbs and gardening. She was an avid recorder of events, seeker of knowledge and practical information on all topics which led her to a love of history and genealogy.
