ATHENS- Sharon Kay “Katie” Smith, age 72, of Athens, passed away, Feb. 3, 2024 at her home. Born Sept. 9, 1951 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Walter Brown and Pauline Bolin Brown.
A graduate of Athens High School, she was employed as a daycare provider and in housekeeping at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Airline Church of Christ.
Katie is survived by two daughters, Samantha (Marvin “Jay”) Winchell of Athens and Amanda Smith of Nelsonville; three grandchildren, Chelsea Winchell, Chasity (Jacob Smart) Winchell and Jennifer Saddler; six great grandchildren, Brantley, Kylie, Raven, Lennox, Rylan, and Levi; a twin sister, Sheila (Oris) Smith of Millfield; two brothers, Jim (Sandy) Brown of Millfield and Dan Brown of Millfield; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Smith, who passed away in 1987; a grandson, Roger Winchell; a grandson in law, Kyle Chesser; a niece, Terry Brown; and a sister in law, Esther Brown.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Officiating will be Willard Love, Minister. Burial will be in Cherry Ridge Cemetery, Shade.
