Solid Waste District schedules recycling days

The Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District is pleased to announce the upcoming Spring Recycling Days and Tire Collection Events.

“Residents of Athens and Hocking County are encouraged to bring unwanted items for reuse which will go to area resale shops, recycled by a recycler or sent to the landfill.” said Jane Forrest Redfern, A-HSWD Director. “Our partners are working to capture as much as possible to reuse, recycle and safety disposal of materials, we thank them for their service and the community.”

The Spring Recycling Days are scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 9am-1pm at the Hocking County Fairgrounds and Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 9am-1pm at the Athens County Fairgrounds. As in the past, the event will collect appliances, E-waste, cell phones, scrap metal, mattresses, books and batteries. The Solid Waste District will also be charging a fee for recycling TVs ($20-$40.00/TV) No Household Hazardous Waste or appliances with Freon will be collected.

There will be six (6) Tire Drop-Off events this Spring. All events are from 9am- 1pm or until the trailer is full. Scrap tires can be dropped off for 50 cents each and $4.00 for tires with rims. Cash or checks only. There is a 10-tire limit per vehicle. The tire events are made possible through a Recycle Ohio grant. No tires from tire retailers or shops.

  • April 20: Athens County Fairgrounds, 286 W. Union St., Athens
  • June 1: Federal Hocking High School, 8461 SR 244, Stewart
  • June 8: Albany Independent Fairgrounds, 5201 Washington St., Albany

Hocking County tire dropoffs:

  • March 23: Logan High School, 14470 SR 328
  • April 6: Perry Township Garage, 168 Wagner Rd.
  • May 18: Hocking County Fairgrounds, 100 N. Homer St., Logan
