CHAUNCEY, Ohio — Tend Space Art Center celebrated its one-year anniversary Friday, Sept. 4, with an evening of poetry from Jamie Miller and Tatiana Dolgushina, and art from Connaught Cullen, Rich-Joseph Facun, Bee Huelsman and Nicole Musgrave.
Tend Space is located in Chauncey and exhibits art of all disciplines within a 75-mile radius. Selena (Len) Loomis not only founded the space, but also lives in the building that once served as a library, at 48 Converse St.
“This is kind of a fun way … to still be a community space,” said Loomis, who is originally from St. Louis, and holds multiple degrees in art and art administration.
Over the past year, Loomis hosted numerous events and artists, including a workshop by Beth Bridgeman, soap and willow-basket maker; a “mud dumpling” workshop with Mud & Lime natural plasters and paints; and yoga with Natalie Johnson. Reflecting on this past year, “I’ve honestly just had so much fun at every event that’s happened here,” Loomis said.
The past year has presented obstacles, Loomis said. “It’s a big space — it’s got a high ceiling, the electric bills are a bit crazy. That’s a big challenge.”
With recent fiscal sponsorship from Fractured Atlas, a New York-based arts support organization, Loomis can now accept tax-deductible donations for Tend Space Art Center, as well as grant funding.
Tend Space Art Center currently has an open-call for programming in 2027. Artists may apply online.
