ATHENS- Teresa Jean (Hann) Iles, age 68 of Athens, died suddenly, Jan. 27, 2024 in Oakhurst, California near Yosemite National Park while on vacation.  Born Dec. 28, 1955 in Wauseon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Gerald E. Hann and Evelyn L. Morel Hann.

A 1974 graduate of Athens High School, she received her bachelor’s degree in Equine Science from Otterbein University in 1979 where she interned at Darby Dan Farms. She later completed a Credential in Computer Science at Hocking College. The majority of her working career was with Ohio University for over twenty-one years as Associate Director of Housing.  She finished her career of 30 years in public service at the Athens County Public Library in Chauncey for several years.  She loved all of the after school library kids and her library colleagues. Her passions included her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, horses, dogs, travel, National Parks, reading, environmental and women’s issues and working with the children at the Chauncey Library. Teresa was always a voice for equality, fairness and justice. She would always speak out on behalf of others that were in need. She was a wonderful wife and true and loyal friend.  She was a devoted caregiver for her parents in their later years.

Teresa is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jerome “Jerry” Iles; seven siblings, Deborah (Morgan) James of Cape Coral, Fla., Susan (Robert) Handley of Athens, Bruce Hann and Jan Shroy of Athens, James Hann of Athens, Dean Hann and his partner Susan Calhoun of Athens, Vanessa Hann of Athens and Christine (Derek) Atchley of Columbus; sisters in law, Carolyn Iles and Victoria Creighton both of Bradenton, FL; a brother in law, Tom (Ruth) Iles of Lewisburg, WV; nieces and nephews, Lindsay (Frank) Riegler, John Handley, Sarah (Paul Fullard) Handley, Matthew (Megan Stotts) Handley, Courtney (Joe) Patrick, Miranda (Ryan) Haught, Michelle Conroy, Carson Calhoun and his fiance Meredith Stone, Trent Iles, Matthew Iles (Lisa), Mallory Iles (Matt Detch), Lauren (Chris) Rydzik, Alex Creighton, Brian Conroy; great nieces and great nephews, Penelope and Tucker Rydzik, McKenna, Ella, Jake and Lydia Conroy, Evelyn, James and Elaine Riegler, Leon and Dario Handley, Roisin Handley Fullard, Calihann and Owen Patrick, Mason, Morgan and Memphis Haught, Kailen Watson; one great, great niece, Indigo Watson; and her two precious dogs, Sophie and Gus.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Hannah Hann; and three nieces, Jessica Hann, Amber Watson and Kimberly Conroy.

A celebration of life service will be conducted Friday, Feb. 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.  Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.  A gathering will be held Friday at the Holy Family Center, 141 Mill St., Athens, OH 45701, following the celebration service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Athens County Dog Shelter, 13 W.
