Three of the first four projects funded by the state’s $500 million Appalachian Community Grant Program are based in part in Athens County, with $17.6 million going to the rehabilitation of the Athens Armory into a coworking space; $26 million to an initiative of the Survivor Advocacy Outreach Program to create a mental health drop-in center and advocacy trauma center, and expand its New Leaf Recovery Village program; and $4 million to a workforce development program led by the Outdoor Recreation Council of Appalachia, which oversees the Baileys Trail System.
