Athens residents will receive new trash cans under a contract with the city’s new trash collector, Rumpke. Some cans may get recycled, but others — likely many due to contamination — will be sent to the landfill. It is estimated that more than 9,000 trash and recycling cans will be replaced. (WOUB)

Ohio’s Parents’ Bill of Rights moves ahead in the Senate — legislation that would force K-12 faculty, staff, social workers, counselors and psychologists to out LGBTQ+ youths to their parents by notifying them of their identities. The Ohio legislature continues to make changes to legislation related to Issue 2, which legalized marijuana in Ohio effective Dec. 7. The Ohio Senate modified House Bill 86, sending it back to the House for reconsideration. If the House passes the modified bill, it will go to Gov. Mike DeWine for signing. (Ohio Capital Journal)

- Scam alert: Don’t be fooled by Facebook messages and posts claiming to sell hoodies or other items for the Nelsonville Police Department. The department issued a notice that the posts are a scam; it does not sell merchandise online. If you see such posts or messages, the department says, report them to Facebook.
