- Athens County EMA hazards input: The Athens County EMA is identifying potential hazards as it updates the county’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. The public is invited to offer input at a meeting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at 75 Connett Road, The Plains. Interested parties may attend in person or remotely.
- Athens County Children Services Board: Special meeting for the Champions for Children Dinner; 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at Ohio University Inn and Conference Center, 331 Richland Ave., Athens.
- Congressman local office hours: Caseworkers for Rep. Troy Balderson (OH-12) will hold office hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in Albany Village Hall, 5153 Alton St., Albany.
- Federal Hocking special board meeting: Special board meeting to discuss the employment of a public employee(s); 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the high school/middle school library, 8461 SR-144, Stewart. The board will immediately enter executive session; there will be no time set aside for public comment and the board will take no action following the executive session.
- Southeast Ohio Recycling Terminal: emergency board meeting to discuss lease of a skid steer, 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, 35 Public Square, Nelsonville.
Government
- Athens hydrant flushing: The Athens Fire Department has begun to flush hydrants. Locations are announced shortly before the flush begins; contact Athens Fire Department at 740-592-3301 or the Engineering & Public Works Department at 740-593-7636 for details.
- Discolored Uptown water: Some areas of Uptown may experience discolored water today and tomorrow following hydrant flow tests conducted on Monday. The water is safe to use, but the city recommends against doing laundry until the water is clear.
- Athens calls for bids: All bids should be sent to the City of Athens, 8 E. Washington St., Athens OH 45701.
- Athens Armory Revitalization Project: Full-Service Furnishings and Equipment Sourcing and Installation: Bids accepted until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. See website for specifications.

Traffic
- Athens County:
- Hebbardsville Road (CR 19): Patching.
- Dutch Creek Road (CR 34) and Potter Road (CR 18): Grading.
- Marietta Run Road (Bern Twp. 196): Bridge repair.
- Salem Road (CR 9): Ditching.
- South Blackburn Road (Athens Twp 32): Closed between 6553 S. Blackburn Road and 6412 S. Blackburn Road until approximately May 21 for a slip repair and installation of a retaining wall.
- Chauncey: Phase two of sewer line installation will continue on Nye Street through Friday, May 2. The work area will be between Jacobs Avenue and Mill Street, beginning at Jacobs and working towards Mill.
- Future work to install sewer on Ellis Avenue will follow, beginning at the intersection of Coe Road, working west towards Converse Street and SR 13. Anticipated time frames:
- May 5-9: Ellis between Coe and Birge.
- May 12-16: Ellis between Birge and Nye.
- May 19-26: Ellis between Nye and Converse.
- Future work to install sewer on Ellis Avenue will follow, beginning at the intersection of Coe Road, working west towards Converse Street and SR 13. Anticipated time frames:
- Ohio Department of Transportation:
- U.S. 33 and SR 682 roundabout: Traffic maintained by flaggers on SR 682. Right shoulder closed on U.S. 33 westbound. SR 682 ramp to U.S. 33 westbound closed April 1 through Aug. 1. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
- SR 7 resurfacing: Begins April 28 from the Meigs County line to Church Road. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: July 15.
Trash and recycling
- Athens Township Spring Cleanup Day: Township residents may dispose of or recycle household debris only at either of two dumpster locations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. For more information, call Ted Linscott at 740-707-5182 or Steve Pierson at 740-517-5467.
