General announcements

  • Chauncey boil order: A 48-hour boil notice was put into effect on Monday, Dec. 10, and is scheduled to end on Wednesday, Dec. 11. 
  • Food distribution: The SE Ohio Foodbank will distribute fresh produce, protein, and other shelf-stable food items at its office on 1005 CIC Drive in Logan from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Dec. 16. Eligible households qualify for state benefits or have incomes under 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. This distribution is open to residents of Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton and Washington counties. Photo I.D. and proof of residency no more than 60 days old are required. 
  • Athens sculpture RFP: The City of Athens is accepting proposals for an outdoor sculpture to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Athens Community Center. Applicants must be 18 years or older and proposals must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 10, 2025.
  • Meigs office closed: The Meigs County Health Department will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, for the staff Christmas party.
  • Master Gardener training: Athens County Master Gardeners will offer online volunteer training beginning in January 2025. Once trained, volunteers must spend at least 50 hours on program projects in the year. 
  • Food and Farm Conference: Registration is open for the 46th annual Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association Conference, to be held Feb. 13–15 in Newark. 
  • Athens leaf pickup: Leaf pickup this week is in Area #3, including the Southside, Old Coach Road, and Blackburn Hills. A final sweep will take place Dec. 16-20.
  • Audits released: The Ohio Auditor of State has released the following audits:

  • Converse Street: The intersection of Converse and High will be closed to traffic for construction on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and with a back-up day reserved for Wednesday, Dec. 11. Construction continues all week.
