- U.S. 33 Athens-Meigs expansion: A two-lane to four-lane expansion project is taking place on U.S. 33 from Athens to Darwin and Five Points to Ravenswood. Lane closures will be in place in both directions on U.S. 33 between Pleasant Hill Road and Oxley Road. Rolling roadblocks will be in place during rock blasts. Flaggers will maintain traffic at side roads intermittently. Estimated completion: 2028.
General
- New community library collection: Alden Library now hosts a collection of books for the community to borrow. No library card necessary; return book after borrowing. Vernon R. Alden Library, 30 Park Place, Athens.
- Jacksonville financial audit: Village of Jacksonville’s 2025 financial audit is complete and available at the office of the Fiscal Officer, 34 S Sixth St., Jacksonville.
- New farmers wanted for market: Two grants in honor of the late Ann Fugate are available for new farmers who wish to sell at the Athens Farmer’s Market; winners are awarded stall fees for one year. Apply by Feb. 15.
- Register for 2026 Polar Bear Plunge: Online pre-registration available through 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20; register in person until 11 a.m. day-of. Individual plungers can plunge anytime between 9:20 a.m. and 12:25 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21. Lake Snowden, 5900 U.S. 50, Albany. Proceeds this year go to the Beacon School.
- Surface Transportation Block Grant: Buckeye Hills Regional Council is accepting applications through March 3. Eligible applicants must be a public agency legally allowed to enter a contract with ODOT. Nonprofits, school districts, and non-public organizations can coordinate/partner with an eligible applicant.
- Musicians wanted for 2026 Athens Porchfest: Applications due by March 1. The event will be held at multiple locations in Athens, May 16-17.
- Apply to join Athens Farmers Market Executive Committee: AFM members can apply to run for its executive committee; membership elects the executive committee at the annual spring meeting Thursday, March 12.
