City of Athens
- The City of Athens Utilities Billing Office will be closed Friday, July 18. Utility payments can be dropped at the box in front of City Hall or payments can be made online. The office will reopen on Monday, July 21.
- Bids:
- Columbus Road and Theatre Lane Lift Station Replacement, City Project # 359: Sealed bids accepted until 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30.
- Richland Lift Station & Sewer Improvements: Sealed bids accepted until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Traffic
- Ohio Department of Transportation:
- SR 7 resurfacing: Meigs County line to Church Road. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: July 15.
- U.S. 33 and SR 682 roundabout: Traffic maintained by flaggers on SR 682. Right shoulder closed on U.S. 33 westbound. SR 682 ramp to U.S. 33 westbound closed April 1 through Aug. 1. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
- U.S. 50 reduced collision U-turn construction: Taking place on SR 50 at Coolville. Lane closures are in place in both directions. Estimated Completion: Oct. 31.
- U.S. 33 expansion: Motorists may encounter flaggers at the highway’s intersections with Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton and Rainbow Lake roads, as well as SR 681. Estimated completion: 2028.
- Nelsonville:
- Scott Street: Closed through Thursday, July 17, for roadbed repair. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to Pleasantview Avenue and traffic controlled by traffic lights on Fort Street and Pleasantview Avenue.
- Canal Street project: Portions of the street will be closed in phases. Phase 1 closes Canal Street from West Washington to Madison Street. Phase 2 closes the street from Watkins Street to 2nd Street. Use posted detours.
General
- Waste collection day: Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District’s household hazardous waste collection day is Saturday, July 19, at the Hocking County Fairgrounds. 100 N. Homer Ave., Logan.
- Chesterhill car show: The Chesterhill Volunteer Fire Department invites the community to its 3rd Annual Car Show, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, July 19. $10/car. 7470 College St., Chesterhill.
- Learn how to register voters: League of Women Voters of Athens County invites the public to learn how to do voter registration: review the registration form, how to complete the form correctly, volunteer responsibilities and more. 5:30–6:30 p.m. Monday, July 21. - ACENet 40-year celebration: See a 10-panel photo exhibition highlighting key initiatives and collaborations from ACEnet’s history. Noon–2 p.m. Saturday, July 26. Athens Community Center, 701 E. State St., room C, Athens.
- Last call for youth baseball: Nelsonville-York Youth League has made its final call to enroll boys for fall baseball. Season starts August 4.
- Writer gathering: Appalachian Literary Arts & Storytelling Festival will host a Summer Write-In in conjunction with Stuart’s Opera House, 3–7 p.m. Thursday, July 31. Stuart’s Opera House, 52 Public Square, Nelsonville.
- Fiddling contest: As part of Nelsonville’s annual Parade in the Hills celebration, the Ohio State Old Time Fiddlers Contest will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, August 15.
