- Athens RFQ: Request for Qualifications for Logistical Support and Site-Specific Coordination for delivery, installation and final placement of furnishings and equipment at the Athens Armory. Accepted until 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7.
- Coolville survey: Two-question income surveys are being conducted as part of the Rural Community Assistance Program as a means to acquire grant funding for the village for the next five years. Residents are encouraged to complete the survey at home or at an open Village Hall with Mayor Tiffany Rife Oman.
- Meigs certified certificates: The Meigs County Health Department’s Office of Vital Statistics cannot issue certified copies of birth or death certificates 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 6., while the state transitions to a new system. Call 740-992-6626 to ensure the system is running; the cost of certified copies will increase by $2, to $27, plus additional fees for use of credit/debit cards.
- Nelsonville shred day: The Auditor’s Office will host a free city-wide community shred day 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 9, in the city hall parking lot, 211 Lake Hope Drive. Open to residents and businesses; must show proof of Nelsonville address. Paper clips and staples are acceptable; no binder clips, loose or bagged paper.
- Athena Award nominations: The Eleventh Annual Athena Award recognizes outstanding contributions and service toward persons with disabilities in the greater Athens community. The city is seeking names of community members who have worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities. Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday, Sept. 2. Forms may also be requested from the Athens City Commission on Disabilities in person or at disabilitiescommission@ci.athens.oh.us.
Traffic
- City of Athens
- Paving schedule: Paving of city streets began Monday, July 28; view the list on the city’s website. No on-street parking will be allowed during the work; closed areas will be posted 24 hours in advance. The schedule is subject to change for inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
- Storm sewer repair: East State Street will be closed to west bound traffic 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Tuesday, July 29 from Stimson Avenue to Fern Street. The road will be closed; no thru traffic or emergency traffic.
- Ohio Department of Transportation:
- SR 7 resurfacing: Meigs County line to Church Road. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: July 31.
- SR 144 culvert replacement: Between Main Street and Four Mile Creek Road. The road is closed; detour U.S. 50 to SR 124 to SR 144. Estimated completion: Aug. 29.
- U.S. 33 and SR 682 roundabout: SR 682 ramp to U.S. 33 west is open. Work continues on roundabouts at the interchange.
- Traffic maintained by flaggers on SR 682. Right shoulder closed on U.S. 33 westbound. SR 682 ramp to U.S. 33 westbound closed April 1 through Aug. 1. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
- U.S. 50 RCUT: Intersection of U.S. 50 and Brimstone Road (CR 56) at Coolville. Lane closures are in place in both directions. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
- U.S. 33 Athens-Meigs expansion: Motorists may encounter flaggers at the highway’s intersections with Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton and Rainbow Lake roads, as well as SR 681. Estimated completion: 2028.
- Nelsonville:
- Canal Street project: Portions of the street will be closed in phases. Phase 1 closes Canal Street from West Washington to Madison Street. Phase 2 closes the street from Watkins Street to 2nd Street. Use posted detours.
General

- Donation location change: UpCycle Ohio Thrift Store at 751 W. Union St. will no longer accept used clothing and other items through its main entrance. Please use the donation door.
- Home Weatherization Program: HAPCAP is accepting applications for the Home Weatherization Program for assistance with insulation, gas appliances venting, repair/replacement of hot water tank, air sealing, and inspection, repair or replacement of primary heating source. Open to residents of Hocking, Athens and Perry counties with household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
