- Hydrant flushing in Athens: 8 a.m.–4 p.m. July 9: Rardin Drive, Park Drive, York Drive, Larson’s Way, Union St., Blick Ave. and Factory St. Flushing locations released daily; see the city’s News Flash page for updates.
- Hot weather help: Starting July 1, income-eligible Ohioans can get help paying electric bills, repair air conditioning units or buy an air conditioner or fan through the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program.
- Athena Award nominations: Nominate someone who has improved the lives of people with disabilities for the 2024 Athena Award, presented by the Athens City Commission on Disabilities. Nominations are due by Monday, Sept. 2.
- Audit released: Sunday Creek Valley Water District, financial audit from Jan. 1, 2021, through Dec. 31, 2022.

Athens
- West Union Street: The city has not released updates on the West Union Street project since June 18. Links to previous announcements are no longer active. Direct questions or concerns to the Engineering and Public Works Department at 740-593-7636.
Nelsonville
- Road closure: Burr Oak Blvd. closed between E. Canal Street and Hillside Drive through 5 p.m. Friday, July 12.
Athens County Engineer
- Lane closures: Pleasanton Road (CR 16) between the US 33 and Old SR 33 (CR 33A), Tuesday, July 9 only. Columbia Road (CR 71) between US 50 and Ohio University Airport; expected completion around Aug. 5.
Ohio Department of Transportation:
- Chauncey sanitary sewer project: SR 13 closed from SR 682 to West Bailey Road. Detour is SR 682 to U.S. 33 west to SR 78 to SR 685 to SR 13. Estimated completion: July 11.
- SR 690 resurfacing: Between U.S. 50 and SR 550. Short-term lane closures with flaggers. Expected completion: July 31.
- South Green Drive: Pedestrian safety improvements; 10-foot lane restriction. Expected completion: Aug. 5.
- U.S. 50 resurfacing: Lane closures from Della Drive to River Road; periodic ramp closures. Expected completion: Aug. 15.
- U.S. 50 traffic signal replacement: U.S. 50 at Washington Road/Meadowbrook Road in Albany. Short-term lane closures with flaggers. Underway. Expected completion: Nov. 1.
- SR 144 slope stabilization: One lane closed between Mountain Bell Road and SR 7; traffic maintained with temporary signals. Expected completion: Nov. 1.
- Trimble Twp. 313: Resurfacing and culvert maintenance project through the Wallace O’Dowd Wildlife Area begins July 15. Road closures will be in place. Expected completion: Sept. 1.
