Traffic

  • City of Athens:
    • Bike path maintenance: Athens County maintenance staff will be cutting back hanging tree limbs along the bikeway June 9–13, primarily during periods of rain. 
    • Court Street between Washington Street and State Street will be closed 6 a.m.–midnight, Saturday, June 14, for Boogie on the Bricks.
  • Ohio Department of Transportation:
    • U.S. 33 and SR 682 roundabout: Traffic maintained by flaggers on SR 682. Right shoulder closed on U.S. 33 westbound. SR 682 ramp to U.S. 33 westbound closed April 1 through Aug. 1. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
    • SR 7 resurfacing: Meigs County line to Church Road. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: July 15. 
    • Coolville RCUT: Construction began on May 27 on U.S. 50 at Coolville. Lane closures will be in place in both directions.

  • The City of Athens is hiring: 
  • Rural Action Green Lunch Series: “The State of AmeriCorps: What we know and what we can do.” Tuesday, June 10, noon–1 p.m. The Plains Public Library, 14 S. Plains Road, The Plains.
  • Athens Bounty on the Bricks: Tickets are available for the annual Bounty on the Bricks event, 6:30–10 p.m. August 9; $125. Registration ends Thursday, July 31.  
  • Honor roll: Alexander Junior/Senior High School has released its honor roll for the fourth quarter of the 2024–25 school year.
  • Wellness symposium: Registration is open for the Southeast Ohio Peer Support Network Wellness Symposium 2025, sponsored by The Gathering Place, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Friday, June 13. Sign up here. Burr Oak Lodge, 10660 Burr Oak Lodge Rd, Glouster.
  • Summer PB&J distribution: Alexander Local School District’s 18th Annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Project presented by Athens County Children Services will be held Thursdays, 10 a.m.–noon, June 5–July 31.   • Jacksonville, Trimble, Glouster Community Cleanup Day: Drop off 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday June 14.   • Baseball tournament: The 8th Annual Sunday Creek Classic Baseball Tournament begins at noon Friday, June 13, and ends Sunday, June 15. Glouster Memorial Park, S. High St., Glouster.

Chauncey

  • Scam alert: The Village of Chauncey warns residents of a text-to-bill-pay scam. If you receive a text from 1-866-647-1888, please alert police and the village office.

Nelsonville

  • HVAC contractors wanted: Hocking Athens Perry Community Action is seeking HVAC contractors at the Housing Office in Nelsonville. Apply by 4 p.m. Friday, June 20.
