Historical solar eclipses: Tom O’Grady of the Southeast Ohio History Center and Ohio University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will present “Not Since Tecumseh: Darkness at Midday in the Ohio Country” at locations around the county in coming weeks. Parts of Ohio will experience their first total solar eclipse in over 100 years on April 8. Locations include the Federal Valley Resource Center, Stewart, 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 18; the Hocking County Historical Society, Logan, 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 19; Nelsonville Public Library, 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27; Shade Community Center, 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 27; OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital, Athens, 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28.
Ohio Sunshine Laws: The Ohio Attorney General’s office has released the 2024 edition of its Sunshine Laws Manual, a guide to the state’s public records and open meetings laws. Changes to the most recent edition include a new chapter on law enforcement records and the addition of internal and external links so users can better navigate the document and read sources such as the Ohio Revised Code. March 10-16 is Sunshine Week, highlighting the importance of government transparency.
