Road work

Meadowbrook Road (County Road 70) is closed between Rossetter and Hebbardsville roads near 6435 Meadowbrook Road until Wednesday morning for a culvert replacement.

Hebbardsville Road (County Road 19) will close later this week about 50 feet south of the intersection with Meadowbrook Road, also for culvert replacement.  

The intersection of Clinton and College streets in Nelsonville is closed until 4 p.m. today for water main tieovers. Use Oak Street instead.

Traffic on West Union Street in Athens is one-way from the SR 56/682 Intersection to the O’Bleness Memorial Hospital entrance. Business entrances are open and marked.


Planned water outage

The Nelsonville Water Department has turned off service to customers on Poling Avenue and Oak, Fort, Clinton, College, Elizabeth, Lancaster, Kontner and Mill streets until 4 p.m. today to connect Clinton and College streets to the new water main.


Bids

The city of Athens is accepting bids for purchase of water softening salt. Bids will be opened at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 5. (City of Athens)

The Appalachian Hell Betties will play a double-header against Lansing Roller Derby Saturday at the Ping Center on the Ohio University Athens campus. Doors open at 1 p.m., with first whistle at 2 p.m. A portion of event proceeds will support the Alexander Inclusive Playground Project.

The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association will host a screening of a documentary about seed diversity and seed-savers, “SEED: The Untold Story,” at The Athena Cinema on Sunday. The event will feature a panel composed of local farmers and small business owners.

The Southeast Ohio History Center is hosting “Rix Mills Remembered,” a collection of paintings by Paul Walker Patton. Rix Mills, a small settlement in Muskingum County, was largely destroyed by strip mining. Patton produced over 500 paintings of the village from memory.
