  • City Project #383, Athens Uptown Area Utility Relocation: open until 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2025. 

Traffic

  • Ohio Department of Transportation
    • U.S. 33 and SR 682 roundabout: SR 682 at U.S. 33. Open with flaggers. The right shoulder is closed on U.S. 33 westbound. Off ramp from U.S. 33 west to SR 682 closed. Use the non-interchange exit for Chauncey then turn right onto North Plains Road. Estimated completion: Nov. 28.
    • U.S. 50 RCUT: Reduced-collision U-turn construction is taking place on U.S. 50 at Coolville. Lane closures are in place in both directions. Estimated completion: Nov. 30.
    • SR 682 sewer line project: Project ongoing between 3rd Street and 4th Street; temporary signals in use. Estimated completion: Nov. 10.
    • U.S. 33 Athens-Meigs expansion: Lane closures will be in place in both directions on U.S. 33 between Pleasant Hill Road and Oxley Road through Nov. 7. Rolling roadblocks will be in place during rock blasts. Estimated completion: 2028. 
  • City of Athens
    • Stimson Avenue Bridge closure: Stimson Avenue Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 2–9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2025, to pour the second half of the bridge deck.
  • Nelsonville
    • Canal Street project: Canal Street project is nearing completion. Until Friday, Oct. 24, work will occur on Burr Oak Boulevard, east end of Canal Street, and the west end of Canal Street. The work in these areas will cause streets to become a single lane with flaggers directing traffic.
    • Hocking Parkway on game days: Parkway will be closed to traffic between both ends of Loop Road 11 a.m.–6 p.m. during 2025 Hocking College home football games. Please avoid this area and use an alternative route on these dates.
      • Game day schedule, all Saturdays: Oct. 25, Nov. 8.
  • Albany
    • Hebbardsville Road bridge: Athens County EMS announced Sept. 12 that unforeseen structural issues will cause a potential six-month closure of the bridge at Hebbardsville Road (CR 17A) at the Fisher Road intersection (CR 17). 

General

  • Live music and tea: The Cannabis Museum invites the public to enjoy a family-friendly show by Colorado artist Chances R Good at its Wednesday Tea Time series, 4–8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22. Suggested donation $10. The Cannabis Museum, 16050 Canaanville Road, Athens
  • Burn ban: Ohio Department of Natural Resources has in effect a ban on most open burning in unincorporated areas throughout October and November. Read regulations in full through the link. 
  • Chauncey emergency preparedness meeting: Village of Chauncey invites residents to a public meeting to discuss flood routes and signage out of Chauncey, emergency preparedness in flooding events and FEMA regulations on development in the floodplain. 5:30–7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. Quaker Meeting House, 22 Birge Drive, Chauncey.
  • Albany fall brush pick-up: The Village of Albany will conduct its autumn brush pickup Oct. 29–Oct.30. See guidelines through link. 
  • Creative fair for individuals with disabilities: Find a passion at hour-long art sessions focused on varied mediums. All ages welcome; under 18 welcome with an adult. 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. Crossroads Event Center, 2095 W. Fair Avenue, Lancaster.
  • Nelsonville code enforcement: Nelsonville Code Enforcement Office would like to notify residents and businesses that any illegally posted signs will be removed from utility poles, trees and public rights-of-way.
  • Disability legislation storytelling: Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living invites those affected by Medicaid cuts and Section 504 (which provides those with disabilities the right to modified testing, extra time on assignments, or assistive technology in school), to share their stories.   • Toddler program fundraiser: The Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery has launched the “Toddler Discovery Time Fundraiser” to help purchase new equipment for a weekly hands-on program for young children.
