Traffic
- Ohio Department of Transportation
- U.S. 33 and SR 682 roundabout: SR 682 at U.S. 33. Open with flaggers. The right shoulder is closed on U.S. 33 westbound. Off ramp from U.S. 33 west to SR 682 closed. Use the non-interchange exit for Chauncey then turn right onto North Plains Road. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
- U.S. 50 RCUT: Reduced collision U-turn construction is taking place on U.S. 50 at Coolville. Lane closures are in place in both directions. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
- SR 682 sewer line project: Project ongoing between 3rd Street and 4th Street; temporary signals in use. Estimated completion: Nov. 10.
- U.S. 33 Athens-Meigs expansion: Lane closures in place in both directions between Pleasant Hill Road and Oxley Road until Oct. 3. Rolling road blocks will be in place during rock blasts. Estimated completion: 2028.
- Nelsonville
- Canal Street project:
- West Canal Street from Madison Street to September Street is underway. Detour using Madison Street, West Columbus Street and September Street.
- Concrete and paving underway on East Canal Street from 2nd Street to Burr Oak Boulevard; roadway closed. Detour using Chestnut Street and Burr Oak Boulevard. Estimated completion: Oct. 31.
- Hocking Parkway on game days: Parkway will be closed to traffic between both ends of Loop Road 11 a.m.–6 p.m. during 2025 Hocking College home football games. Please avoid this area and use an alternative route on these dates.
- Game day schedule, all Saturdays: Oct. 4, Oct. 18, Oct. 25, Nov. 8.
- Canal Street project:

- Hebbardsville Road bridge: Athens County EMS announced Sept. 12 that unforeseen structural issues will cause a potential six-month closure of the bridge at Hebbardsville Road (CR 17A) at the Fisher Road intersection (CR 17).
General
- Athens Armory opening: The historic Athens Armory will host a Community Open House 3:30–6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. Tour the building, which will be home to BlueDot Co-working & Event Space and the Athens County Foundation. 1 Armory Street, Athens.
- Septic repair and replacement: The Athens City-County Health Department has funding available for repairs and replacement for failing septic systems. See link for application requirements and eligibility.
- Birth Circle experiences: The Birth Circle in Athens requests stories from those who have attended its programming to use in its future grant applications, conversations with donors, and invitations to families.
- Student essay and video contests: Students in Athens, Meigs, Gallia, Jackson, and Vinton counties are invited to enter competitions of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. The George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest is open to high school students; the Youth Video Contest is open to grades six and up. Deadlines are Dec. 15, 2025, for essays and Jan. 15, 2026, for videos.
