The Mine Tavern in Nelsonville experienced a partial structure collapse over the weekend, and will remain closed indefinitely. The building, constructed in 1842, was deemed an “immediate and significant collapse hazard” unacceptable for any occupancy in a final review by a structural engineer. (City of Nelsonville)
U.S. Olympic hockey team goalie Gwenyth Phillips is representing Athens on her helmet at the Milan games with an illustration of a brick. After a victory over Italy’s team, she explained the significance and ubiquitousness of bricks in Athens. She said that as a goalie, she considers the brick a “cool crossover,” metaphorically. Ohio House Republican lawmakers introduced a bill to ‘protect’ parents who do not affirm their child’s gender identity, overturn local conversion therapy bans and more. Voting rights organizations in Ohio have filed a federal lawsuit over SB 293, arguing it unlawfully allows the state to cancel voter registrations without giving voters prior notice or a meaningful chance to respond. (Ohio Capital Journal)
