ATHENS, Ohio – The City of Athens will begin construction on the Westside Sidewalks project on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026. This project involves removal and replacement of sidewalk on W. State Street between N. Shafer St. and N. Lancaster St. and on N. Shafer Street between W. Union St. and Byard St.
Construction will begin on N. Shafer St. before moving to W. State St. and is expected to continue through the end of November 2026. The work will be performed by TFR Construction under contract with the City of Athens.
During construction, crews will be removing and replacing sections of walk and brick. While work is underway, there may be limited access to sidewalks, driveways, and street parking.
The City of Athens appreciates the community’s patience as these improvements are completed and will work to minimize disruptions to residents, businesses, and visitors.
