Grammatically incorrect promo flags are an embarrassment

To the editor:

I recently drove down enough of Stimson Avenue to see multiple promotional flags projecting from light poles urging me to “Bank Local,” “Shop Local,”and “Drink Local.” Here we are, in a college town trying to break free from an Appalachian stereotype, and our city shoots itself in the foot with a grammatical error emblazoned for all to see, an error taught in third grade, the difference between an adjective and an adverb. Why teach English in grade school, paid for with property taxes, when the adults can’t speak good???

There are many bigger problems in the world right now but these stupid flags demonstrate why Appalachia is stereotyped.
