Ongoing traffic in Athens County: week of Aug. 4, 2026

Ohio Department of Transportation

  • U.S. 33 Athens-Meigs expansion: Two-lane to four-lane expansion from Athens to Darwin and Five Points to Ravenswood. Estimated completion: 2028.
    • Between Oxley Rd. (Athens County) and Rocksprings Rd. (Meigs County), the shoulders are closed and side roads are closed intermittently for equipment crossing through 2028.
    • Rolling road blocks will be in place when rock blasting is occurring.
    • The passing lane is closed in both directions on U.S. 33 between Oxley Rd. and Pleasant Hill Rd. through June 2027.
    • Pleasanton Road is closed through Nov. 20. ODOT’s detour is Old U.S. 33 to Pleasant Hill Rd.
    • At Pleasanton Rd., a 13 ft. width restriction is in place on U.S. 33, and construction vehicles are periodically crossing both lanes of traffic. Temporary signals are maintaining traffic intermittently on U.S. 33 at Pleasanton Rd. through Nov. 20.
    • On the four-lane section between Pleasanton Road (Athens County) and Rocksprings Road (Meigs County), lane closures are in place in both directions through Aug. 31.
  • SR 56 realignment: Road is closed between Dogwood Ridge and Kimberly Road. Detour is SR 278 to East Canal Street (Old U.S. 33) to SR 691 to SR 56. Estimated completion: Oct. 1.
  • U.S. 33 resurfacing: Lane closures will be in place from Nelsonville to Logan. Estimated completion: Oct. 15.
  • SR 329 culvert replacement: A culvert replacement project is taking place on SR 329 between New England Road and SR 144. Traffic is being maintained with temporary signals. Estimated Completion: Sept. 30.
  • SR 329 resurfacing: A resurfacing project is taking place on SR 329, between Zimmerman Hill Rd. and State St. Traffic is being maintained by flaggers. Estimated Completion: Sept. 1.
  • Amesville pedestrian safety project: A pedestrian safety project is taking place in the Village of Amesville. Flaggers are maintaining traffic on SR 329/SR 550 in the Village. Estimated Completion: Sept. 1.
  • SR 681 culvert replacement: A culvert replacement project is taking place on SR 681 between Hebbardsville Road and Setty Road. Traffic is being maintained with temporary signals. Estimated Completion: Aug. 8.

Athens

Amesville

  • Pedestrian safety project: Began June 22 in the Village of Amesville. Flaggers will maintain traffic on SR 329/SR 550. Estimated completion: Sept. 1.

Nelsonville

  • Utility pole replacements: Chestnut Street, Poplar Street and Canal Street will be impacted by AEP construction, including traffic interruptions around work areas. Estimated completion: Nov. 30.

New Marshfield

  • Sewer project: Construction began June 8 and is expected to continue for approximately one year.
