ATHENS, Ohio — With Veterans Day around the corner, many events and promotions are available to Athens County vets. All of these offers and activities take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, unless otherwise noted. To access these offers, you may need to show military ID or proof of service.
National restaurant chains
- Applebee’s: Free full-size entrée from list of seven options plus a $5 gift card for dine-in, to-go or delivery before Dec. 2, 2023.
- Bob Evans: Free full-size entrée from list of seven options.
- IHOP: Free stack of Red, White, and Blueberry pancakes, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Some locations may offer free breakfast combos.
- Little Caesars: Free Hot-n-ready Lunch Combo, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
- Starbucks: Free tall (12-ounce) hot or cold brewed coffee.
- Subway: BOGO Footlong Sub through Nov. 17.
- Texas Roadhouse: Voucher for free dine-in or carryout meal from select menu will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Tim Horton’s: Free small hot coffee.
- Wendy’s: Free breakfast combo, 6:30–10:30 a.m.
Free meals from local organizations
- VFW Post 7174: 1 p.m., flag retirement ceremony and free soup buffet for veterans at the post, 12 Pine St., The Plains.
- Glouster Eagles: 5 p.m., dinner for veterans at the lodge, High Street, Glouster.
- VFW Auxiliary Post 9893: Noon, free soup meal for all veterans, members and guests at the post, 3025 Dickson Rd., Albany.
- American Legion Post 21: 7–9 a.m., breakfast before float preparation; lunch following the parade and ceremony at post 21, 521 W. Union St., Athens, and Amvets Post 76, 20 Campbell St., Athens.
- Logan AFJROTC: 9–10:30 a.m., free breakfast at Logan High School cafeteria, 14470 SR 328, Logan.
Community activities
- Nelsonville-York Elementary: Veterans Day ceremony, 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 4 Buckeye Drive, Nelsonville.
- City of Athens Veterans Day Parade: 10 a.m., Morris Avenue to East State Street to Carpenter Street to Court Street, Athens.
- Wayne National Forest: No fees for motorized riders or camping.
- Southeast Ohio History Center: Veterans display and free admission 12–4 p.m., 24 W. State St., Athens.
