We’re expanding our board of directors

,

We have some exciting announcements in the queue over the next few weeks. Today, I’m excited to share that we’re in the midst of expanding our board to include professional journalists, faculty in the Ohio University Scripps College of Communication, and local business owners and community leaders.

Our new board members join current advisors Ilya Kogan, Susan Urano and Tom Hodson, who have helped guide the Independent through the critical first year of our start-up. We are so grateful to these three and our other initial advisors for getting our board off the ground. We are by no means done starting up, but we’re ready now to bring on a full board.

We believe that bringing in a group of individuals with diverse experiences and connections will allow us to better serve the community by providing a wider range of perspectives and expertise. Our hope is that this move will help us to create a more well-rounded and informed news organization that reflects the needs and interests of Athens County.

We’ll be announcing new board members over the coming weeks in the Indy — and first up is Mark Turner, an assistant professor in the Scripps school and the former executive editor of the Akron Beacon Journal. Scroll down for more information about what Mark brings to the Indy, and stay tuned as we announce additional board members in the coming weeks.
