letter from the editor

What’s on your mind?

,

When I was editor of the Athens News, I had a love-hate relationship with the Athens Voice. On the one hand, anonymity allowed some to espouse opinions that they might have hesitated to voice if their name were attached. At its best, though, the Voice gave readers a platform to speak their minds about issues and events, both the good and the bad.

While we don’t offer a similar forum (yet?), the Independent does accept letters to the editor.

This issue of The Indy includes a letter from Adrienne Mohlenkamp with the League of Women Voters of Athens County. It’s not our first letter — that honor went to Nancy Pierce, who wrote in October about State Issue 1. But we’d like it to signal a new trend.

We want to be a forum for anyone in Athens County who has something to say. From pressing public issues to lighter topics, your thoughts and opinions matter. We don’t want the Independent to be a one-way street, but rather a busy interchange of ideas and information.

Read our guidelines for submissions here, then send your letters and guest columns to opinion@athensindependent.com. We can’t wait to hear from you!
